16-17 January 2013, Abu Dhabi, UAE, a side event of WFES 2013

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network, in co-operation with the SHARAKA EU funded project and MASDAR Insitiute, organise the 3rd Annual Confence on EU-GCC Energy Cooperation,  on 16th - 17th of January, 2013 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, as a side event of the “World Future Energy Summit-WFES 2013”. The event will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The Meeting aims to promote EU-GCC cooperation in the field of clean energy, by enhancing inter-regional knowledge dissemination and information exchange on clean energy topics, including research, technology and policy aspects.
The Conference agenda includes:
16th January Day 1 Opening Ceremony
The Opening Session will take place on 16 January (at 09:30am, Capital Suite-19), with addresses by:
·         Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action,
·         Dr Majid Al Moneef, GCC Secretariat (tbc),
·         Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Vice-President of European Investment Bank (EIB)
·         Hamza Kazim, Vice-President, Operations & Finance, Masdar Institute
The EU Ambassador Adam Kulach, Delegation of the European Union to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and policy authorities in the GCC will also participate.

16th  January Day 1 High level Workshop on GCC - EU Renewables Energy cooperation
The workshop aims to elaborate and discuss a recent initiative: GCC Renewable Energy Readiness Assessment Report being developed with Network partners across the GCC. Experts will present the results from the GCC Renewable Readiness Assessment report, will elaborate on its value as a “benchmark” using a common framework to assess each country’s RE-readiness, helping identify and address gaps to overcome the main barriers for the deployment of renewable energy projects which are of growing importance for the GCC region.
The meeting includes a high level panel discussion on “Challenges and opportunities in EU-GCC renewables energy cooperation”.
17th January DAY 2    - Experts panels and technical reports’ presentation
Second Day works include round –table discussion sessions and papers presentations on enhancing gcc-eu cooperation in the fields of:
·    EU-GCC energy cooperation; technical paper presentation, co-ordinated by the SHARAKA project
·    Maritime Transport/security; technical paper presentation, co-ordinated by the SHARAKA project
·    Discussion Group on Clean Natural Gas Technologies; co-ordinated by the EU-GCC CLEAN ENERGY NETWORK
·    Discussion Group on  Carbon Capture and Storage; co-ordinated by the EU-GCC CLEAN ENERGY NETWORK
·    Technical Site Visit at Masdar City
During the Meeting sessions, distinguished clean energy experts, including representatives from the European Commission and the GCC authorities, will exchange views on the potential ways to support and enhance the long term strategic EU-GCC clean energy relationship.
Experts are invited to apply for participating in one or more sessions according to one's filed of expertise/professional activities, in order to facilitate knowhow transfer and expertise sharing among the two regions as well as to discuss on co-operation prospects among EU and GCC clean energy actors.

Kindly note that there is no registration fee for the Meeting and delegates are expected to cover own travel and accommodation expenses.
